Abstract

The features of land use in Europe have undergone continuous transformation for millennia, which was caused by both human activities and changes in the natural environment. The appearance of European landscapes has been changed by agricultural influences, industrial and technological revolutions and the influence of modern urbanization.

The paper discusses the peculiarities of the evolution of land use in Europe, analyzes modern trends and perspectives. Here on the agenda is the need to balance economic growth and environmental sustainability, the need to identify the challenges faced by modern European land use policy.
