Environmental Impact Assessment of Construction and Operation of Hydroelectric Power Stations

Abstract

Construction and operation projects of many hydroelectric power stations (HPPs) are being implemented in Georgia. Energy independence is vital for the development of the region and the country.

The article discusses assessing the impact of such activities on the environment. The types of environmental impact of the construction and operation of HPPs are also discussed, the geographical (landscape) objects that are affected are highlighted, and the main environmental legislation related to the implementation of a similar type of project is defined.
