Development prospects of wine tourism in Ambrolauri municipality

Abstract
Despite the negative consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has had a direct impact on the tourism sector for more than 2 years, state borders have been closed and tourist flows have been physically blocked, it is still considered one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy in the world. Georgia is no exception, where tourism is characterized by a growing trend and is considered a priority sector of the economy, despite a number of important challenges.
Tourism combines many types, among which wine tourism is particularly noteworthy, which is a very popular type of tourism in the modern world. According to the definition of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO): „Eno-tourism (Wine Tourism), as a sub-type of Gastronomy Tourism, refers to tourism whose purpose is visiting vineyards, wineries, tasting, consuming and/or purchasing wine, often at or near the source“ (https://www.unwto.org/gastronomy-wine-tourism).
The article discusses one of the outstanding directions of tourism – wine tourism, its essence and development prospects in Ambrolauri municipality.
