Abstract

Sustainable development represents the process of establishing a balance among social, economic, and ecological systems, in which landscape planning plays a crucial role by ensuring the rational use of natural resources, the protection of ecosystems, and the harmonization of human activities with the environment. Its goal is to organize space in a way that promotes economic progress while maintaining environmental balance and social well-being.
The paper discusses the theoretical and practical foundations of the concept of sustainable development as one of the key directions in contemporary geographical science. Special attention is given to the analysis of the essence of the landscape, its spatial structure, and functional organization, as well as to the principles and methodological specificities of landscape planning. The research is based on an integrated approach that combines ecological, social, and economic factors within the spatial development planning process. The paper serves as a methodological basis for the author’s further research, which will focus on the Samegrelo region as a
territory of particular relevance in the context of landscape planning.
