Abstract

Throughout human existence, human socio-economic activities have had a huge impact on the natural environment. The consequences are often catastrophic and threaten us with future threats as well as the existing ones. Therefore, there was a need for sustainable development, environmental protection and rational nature use, the need to expand protected areas and form a unified network, ecologically oriented territorial (landscape) planning, the need for landscape management, etc. Similar measures are implemented within a strictly defined legal framework, where each paragraph is based on the results of large-scale complex surveys. Often, non-compliant processes take place around us, which are related to the irrational use of the natural environment and resources. Preventing and regulating such processes is one of the main challenges of modern environmental legislation.

The paper discusses the historical development of Georgian environmental legislation and the importance of international cooperation in this direction. The main local issues related to the legislative provision of the development of biodiversity and protected areas are presented.
