Peculiarities of University Education In Geography, Trends and Challenges
Main Article Content
Abstract
Geography university education in Georgia is facing new challenges. Some of them are related to the current situation, as well as to the relics and traditions of the past. If international experience and the interests of the country’s sustainable development are not taken into account, geographical science may be “out of the game” and its scope of application may be limited to school education.
Correction of the situation should be carried out, first of all, by modernization of university geographical education, which in turn will give impetus to the stimulation of scientific and practical interests. For this, it is necessary to take into account the international experience and trends in the teaching of geography at the university. This applies to all three levels of education: undergraduate, master and doctoral.
The article discusses the peculiarities of university teaching of geography, directions and trends of its development in many developed countries of the world (USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Belgium, Sweden, Japan, Netherlands, etc.). The results of the study were reported at the TSU Faculty Conference in 2018, although virtually nothing has changed in the university teaching of geography since then.
