Abstract

The article examines the social and ecological aspects of transport infrastructure development in Georgia. Using transport corridors as case studies, it describes the main challenges and risks associated with the construction and operation of highways, including: impacts on biodiversity, landscape fragmentation, natural resource use, and effects on the socio-economic conditions of local communities.
The paper also emphasizes the necessity of integrated approaches in project implementation, aimed at ensuring economic progress, social equity, and ecological balance.
This approach is based on the principles of sustainable development and requires consideration of site-specific geographical characteristics in engineering decision-making.
